cStor Helps Arizona Community Physicians Modernize Infrastructure and Speed Applications to Improve Patient Care

Companies Assist Arizona’s Largest Physician-owned Medical Group in Future-Proofing IT Infrastructure, Eliminating Downtime, Improving Data Security and Offering Real-time Access to Patient Records

Scottsdale, Ariz. Mar 29, 2018 – cStor, a leading provider of data center, cloud, virtualization and cybersecurity solutions, today announced that the company teamed with its partner NetApp to modernize the delivery of healthcare offerings and services, speed provider access to nearly 700,000 patient records and improve data security for Arizona’s largest and most successful physician-owned medical group, Arizona Community Physicians (ACP).

ACP began experiencing challenges with their electronic medical records (EMR), financial management and population health management systems, which were becoming ill-equipped to efficiently manage the vast amount of data being generated by lab results, electronic documents, third-party records and other EMR data.

System slow-down and regular crashes finally led the ACP technical support team to search for a better way to quickly and reliably access necessary data and records to support everyday operations. ACP turned to cStor to help modernize their data center, and cStor’s solution architects recommended NetApp hardware technologies.

“The challenges ACP was facing are increasingly common in the healthcare industry as information is exploding while EMRs and other systems are aging – they simply cannot efficiently handle such vast amounts of data,” commented Peter Schmitt, chief technology officer at cStor. “Modernizing infrastructure technology with a proven solution such as NetApp not only keeps data secure and lets clients maintain full control, it also significantly reduces their total cost of ownership. Clients struggling with these kinds of challenges can get help to devise a smart plan for their unique environment and likely be in great shape for the next five to seven years. “

Part of cStor’s recommendations called for a new NetApp® all-flash system with Snapshot™ technology, in addition to a Commvault solution for system backups, and NetApp OnCommand® software. The ACP team identified an immediate improvement in system speed and performance and found they could more easily manage and protect large data sets with Allscripts, a powerful flash drive that helps identify and quickly resolve bugs in existing applications.

Now the ACP infrastructure thrives with an efficient data-driven environment, that is reducing backup rates from 12 hours to 1.5 hours while providing caregivers with real-time access to patient records. The overhauled infrastructure allows the ACP team to focus on innovation, and on creating new revenue streams, optimizing operations and actively looking for new ways to improve the patient experience.

ACP was founded in 1994 and is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and services in family medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, endocrinology, rheumatology, internal medicine, dermatology and gynecology. The group has more than 50 locations in Tucson, Oro Valley and Green Valley, with 166 providers that drive their healthcare practice on a ‘patient first’ philosophy.
